David B. Doty, Just Intonation Composer, Theorist, & Musician

The pages linked below contain material from my 50 years of composing, performing, and recording music in just intonation. My articles about just intonation theory and The Just Intonation Primer will be found in the “Words” section.

  • Other Music (1975–c.1986). The experimental music ensemble I cofounded, performed with, built instruments and composed extensively for. Other Music was best know for its American gamelan, tuned in a 14-tone-per octave just intonation scale.
  • Uncommon Practice (1984–1995). A CD of my compositions for MIDI instruments in Just Intonation.
  • Just Intonation and Microtonal Music Links ported from the JIN website and updated.
  • Recent Projects and Works in Progress.
  • A Chord Atlas for the National Reso-phonic Just Intonation Guitar (PDF). This just intonation steel guitar was orginally designed for Lou Harrison's Scenes from Nek Chand and subsequently composed for by many other composers, myself included.
  • Scores of some of my pieces are available from Frog Peak Music.
  • My Wikipedia article. Perhaps some qualified person would like to edit and expand it.
